Fast felt balls. Could it be true?

We LOVE felting projects! So, it happened again.  The other day instead of doing something productive, I spent quite a bit of time watching YouTube videos on how to make felt balls.  I blame social media. I blame that for a lot of things.  It sounds so random that I chose to watch videos on felt balls as opposed to watching something more stimulating such as watching paint dry, but here’s the back story:  Every time I log on to Instagram or Pinterest, or anything Internet-y, someone has a really pretty rainbow felt ball garland strung across some part of their crafty home and then just like that, total case of mind control kicks in and I need to have one too.  Keep reading to find out how I fed my inner craft beast.

String art. Another new craft obsession.

imageWe LOVE string art. Okay, guys…I’m working on my “need to try” everything approach to crafting.  It’s a slow process, a very slow process, which is why I should stay off of Pinterest and Instagram.  I see.  I buy.  I try.  Sadly it’s not always a “happily ever after” result, which kinda makes me sad when I blow a wad on crafts that will eventually end up at the local Goodwill. However, today, I found my crafty soul mate…its name is “string art”…and you, my friends,  YOU WILL LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER TOO IF YOU TRY STRING ART.  It’s so super 70s.  Revived & modernized circa a few years ago.  Finally discovered by me today because I live under a rock and I’m not cool.  Until now.  Read on to learn how to be cool and make string art yourself.

Succulents Save the Day! (Drought-Friendly Gardening)

We LOVE succulents!

With the recent heat wave that’s passing through my neck of the woods (Santa Clarita) and California’s strict landscape watering restrictions, my back yard looks like a cemetery from a really bad horror film.  Our grass is no longer salvageable and it’s become pointless to water it at all, given the reduced allowances.

Normally I wouldn’t care about my yard;  my general life rule is this:  I don’t garden and I won’t garden.  However, it’s looking so bad that i’m pretty sure I should sleep with one eye open because at any moment, zombies are going to ascend from it.  Keep reading to see my solution.

Easy Peasy Bunting Banner!

imageWe LOVE bunting! They’re bright, colorful and whimsical. I use them for every party I throw and every family photo shoot I plan. I’ve got them draped around my little guy’s bedroom as well as his reading nook. Bunting banners make an otherwise dull space bright, cheery, and colorful without too much work. I know this is not news or rocket science. A search for “bunting” on Pinterest or Etsy will produce more results than you care to scroll through. But since we LOVE DIY, why buy a bunting banner when you can make one? Read on for the details.

DIY Felted Clothing Embellishment

We LOVE this DIY needle felting project!image

Every now and then, I have to face the harsh reality that I am a craft supply hoarder. If it wasn’t for my bestie Viv talking me out of things that I thought about “trying” over the years (most recently quilting), I would be the proud owner of more storage space than what Tori Spelling needs to store her 90210 memorabilia. No thanks.

Despite Viv’s help in getting me to dial it back over the years, I’ve still ended up with a crap ton of stuff that I “buy and try” and then quickly forget about for something new. Normally I would consider it a bad thing that “Hoarders, Buried Alive” could film an entire season based on my craft woes, but not today! Because today, my friends, I found my needle felting supplies!

And now I’m here to convince you that you NEED needle felting supplies, too.  My tutorial uses a lightweight sweater appropriate for summer, and Viv embellished a stretch jersey hoodie.  However, you can do this on any knit/jersey textile, so it’s a great project any time of year. Read on to see the details.

Fun With Water Beads!

We LOVE water beads!

OMG.  WATER BEADS!  SQUEAL! For me, it was LOVE at first sight.  Or feel.  Or both.  I think my BFF would agree.  There is something so magical about them that I rank them right up there with unicorns and See’s candies (we will save that LOVE affair post for another time).

Read on to find out more about my obsession!

DIY Decorative Arrow

IMG_0863We LOVE this decorative arrow!

Summer is just around the corner and what better way to celebrate it than with backyard s’mores by the fire-pit? Wrong. That’s a horrible idea if you have a little guy running around who enjoys burning the marshmallows more than eating them.

Of course I thought about the potential hazards involved with a little guy and fire when I came up with the idea, which is why I bought these super awesome (and cheap!) 30” skewers from my local grocery store. My thinking was that they would be long enough to prevent him from getting too close to the fire. True. What I didn’t take into account was that he would be wielding a 30” WEAPON with a flaming marshmallow near others and himself. Recipe for disaster.

Read on to see how I repurposed these skewers that would have otherwise been donated to the sanitation department.
